Getting started

Does the app require an account?

No. The Red Apple works without creating an account. The optional account feature is not enabled in this version.

Which devices are supported?

The app is for iPhone and iPad; it supports iOS 17 and later.

When will it be on the App Store?

Release preparation is ongoing; the app is currently in TestFlight and is not yet available on the App Store. We can't give a confirmed date.

Backup and recovery

How do I create a backup?

From the backup section in the app's settings you can create an encrypted backup file (.redapple). New backups use your existing recovery key by default; if no key is stored on your device, a new one is generated and shown to you. You choose where to save the file (for example Files or iCloud Drive).

What is the recovery key?

It's the key required to open the backup, and it is not written into the file. It's stored on your device and can be shown again from the backup section after authentication; it's a good idea to keep a copy somewhere safe and separate from your device.

I lost my recovery key — what can I do?

First, try showing the current recovery key from the app's backup section. If the key is still stored on your device, you can see it again after authentication. If no matching key can be found anywhere, the developer cannot open the old file. If your current data is still in the app, you can make a new backup from it; making a new backup on its own does not change the key. If you did change the key, keep the old one too for your older files.

How do I restore a backup on another device?

Open the restore flow on the new device; choose your backup file, enter the file's key, check the preview and confirm the restore. Importing does not erase or replace your existing records: it adds missing ones and keeps matching ones as they are.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

Deleting the app from your device also removes the local data on that device, along with the local backup and protective copies the app created. Files you exported, and any iCloud copies, stay until you delete them. You might consider taking an encrypted backup before deleting.

iCloud and your data

Do I have to use iCloud?

No. The app works without iCloud too. With suitable system iCloud settings, your data can sync between your Apple devices; no separate app account is needed. This path depends on the availability of your Apple account and iCloud settings.

Where is my data stored?

On your device first; with suitable iCloud settings it can sync within Apple's ecosystem. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I export my data?

In Free you can create an encrypted backup file. Pro also includes a readable export option; that file is not encrypted, so keep that in mind when sharing it.

Free limits and Pro

What are the Free limits?

In Free you can create up to 7 active goals or journeys in total; each goal or journey holds up to 7 stages, and each stage up to 7 steps. Pro removes these limits.

Which progress styles are included?

Free includes Momentum with your own data and sample previews of the other three progress styles (Focus Rings, Red Apple Path and Rings 2). Pro unlocks all styles.

Will my old data be deleted if I reach the limit?

No — the quota never deletes any of your records. The limit stops you from adding new goals or journeys and from going past the stage/step caps; you can keep reading and completing your existing content. A completed goal no longer counts towards the quota; journeys count until you archive them. You can delete whatever you want to yourself.

I bought Pro — how do I restore it on a new device?

Open the app with the same Apple ID you purchased with, and use the "Restore purchases" option on the purchase screen; your Pro entitlement comes back with the same Apple ID.

How do payments and refunds work?

Payments and refunds are handled entirely by Apple. The developer never sees your payment details; to request a refund you need to contact Apple through the App Store.

Which version includes the app lock?

App lock with Face ID / Touch ID or your device passcode is a Pro feature. While the lock is on, goal reminder notifications don't show content, and Live Activity details are hidden.

Feedback

Bug reports and suggestions make the app better. If you're testing via TestFlight, you can also send feedback from within the TestFlight app; or write to us directly: dev@tnalbant.com
